JOB DESCRIPTION

In collaboration with other members of the scene shop and production staff, the Stage Technician (ST) is responsible for the construction and fabrication of scenery and props as required for production. Using technical drawings and/or visuals supplied by the Technical Director (TD) the ST must accurately produce a finished project on a timely basis. Care and cleanup of the shop, shop tools and set storage must be maintained. The ST should contribute to maintaining a safe working environment. 

 SCHEDULE

The position of ST shall be scheduled accordingly to ensure that all work is completed.  The ST is a non-exempt part-time position.  Standard working hours from 10am-530pm M-F.

 

COMPENSATION

TLT shall pay the hourly rate of $18.00-$19.50 DOE per hour for the duties listed below. At this time TLT does not offer a medical/dental/retirement benefits package. TLT has a paid vacation plan of 80 hours per year the first three years of service and 120 hours per year after four or more years of service. TLT also offers nine paid holidays throughout the year. TLT follows the Washington State sick leave policy.

 

STAGE TECHNICIAN DUTIES

  • Build, maintain, modify, paint, and repair scenery, props, sound, and lighting equipment

  • Pack, unpack, load, and unload material and equipment moving in and out of TLT

  • Set-up and strike scenery and other equipment for rehearsals and other events at TLT

  • Cooperate with other carpenters to help facilitate the completion of all work within the scheduled timeframe

  • Maintain scene shop tools and equipment

  • Report any problems with deadlines, materials, or conflicts to TD

  • Create a positive and creative atmosphere by approaching tasks with an adaptable frame of mind

  • Give support and show appreciation to the Board of Directors, Patrons, other Volunteer Organizations and supporters of TLT

  • Follow procedures and policies of TLT as written in the employee manual

  • Work closely with production teams to mount TLT’s season of programming.

  • Provide and assist with ongoing maintenance and organization of TLT’s main facility at 210 N I Street.

  • Provide and assist with ongoing maintenance and organization of TLT’s facility located at 204 N I Street.

  • Utilize volunteers/interns to assist with the construction of sets.

  • Work to ensure a safe environment.

  • Maintain continuous communication with TD

  • Operate, maintain and safeguard the technical assets of the theatre, including supervising the use of lighting, sound, communications equipment, and the use and maintenance of stage facilities.

  • Ensure proper functioning and safety of all moving scenic elements.

  • Attend opening night of each production (unless otherwise arranged with MAD).

  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team

  • Ability to work extended periods on surfaces overhead, on sawhorses, on floor level, vertically and horizontally oriented

  • Ability to work with materials weighing up to 80 lbs unassisted
