Tacoma Little Theatre is holding auditions for its production of The Pillowman, directed by Blake York.

Auditions will be held Sunday, February 11th and Monday, February 12th at Tacoma Little Theatre. Audition appointments will be set between the times of 6:00pm-9:00pm on Sunday and 7:00pm-10:00pm on Monday. Callbacks will be held on Thursday, February 15th.

Martin McDonagh echoes the works of Stoppard, Kafka, and the Brothers Grimm in this New York Drama Critics' Circle and Olivier Award winning script. The Pillowman is a viciously funny and seriously disturbing tale of Katurian, a fiction writer in an unnamed totalitarian state. Katurian and his brother Michael are brought in for questioning by two bulldog detectives, Tupolski and Ariel, when the content of his short stories - which involve disturbingly gruesome tales - begin to resemble real-life murders. The Pillowman weaves between reality and storytelling; and the result is an urgent work of theatrical bravura and an unflinching examination of the very nature and purpose of art.

Please prepare a contemporary monologue not to exceed 2 minutes.  Part of the audition may include a cold reading.  Actors of all ethnicities are encouraged to audition.  All roles are available: Katurian (male late 20s-mid 30s), Michal (late 20s-mid 30s), Tupolski (male or female mid 30s or older), Ariel (male or female med 30s or older), Mother (female, any age, non-speaking), Father (any age, non-speaking), Girl (age 8-13, non-speaking).

To reserve an audition time, email tlt@tacomalittletheatre.com, or call our Box Office at (253) 272-2281. Please provide: your name, phone number, email address, preferred audition time, and playable age.  Bring a headshot and resume to your audition.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

Katurian: Playable age: Late 20s-mid 30s, male. Lines 450+ A talented writer. Despite his taste for the macabre, Katurian is keen to not cause any real trouble. Besides the posterity of his writing, Katurian’s only concern is for his brother, Michal.

Michal: Playable age: Late 20s-mid 30s, male. Lines 175+ Katurian’s brother. Childlike innocence. He loves stories and has an infantile disposition, taking everything at face value.

Tupolski: Playable age: Mid 30s or older, male or female, Lines 250+ “The good cop”. Sardonic, funny, straightforward, intelligent, controlled. An investigator, less violent and aggressive, but very unfeeling. He is the hero and the brains of the operation.

Ariel: Playable age: Mid 30s or older, male or female, Lines 150+. “The bad cop” – Explosive, physically powerful, self-righteous, violent, brutal, bulldog.
